No story about working for Exclusive Concepts is complete without the "How did you meet Scott?" anecdote, and Herb Osher is no exception. It was actually Herb's son who first worked for Exclusive Concepts' founder Scott Smigler, since they were roommates at Bentley College. But when Herb heard from his son the things Scott's company was doing, he was intrigued.
"I had been in marketing for a long time," Herb says, "and this was all news to me. I found it fascinating that you could do targeted direct marketing and really manage your budget by looking at results. With the Internet, you can adjust and adapt, which is contrary to what most marketing people get to do. Most marketing is just really good guessing—with online marketing, you can apply the qualitative techniques to get accurate, affordable quantitative results and make real business decisions."
Scott was looking for business consulting help, and Herb came on board. After a while, his consultancy became full time.
Herb brought to Exclusive Concepts over 20 years of experience in creating, operating and marketing products and services. A vice president of marketing for Anysoft Corporation, Herb managed an international team that defined and launched application integration software enabling access to the data and functionality of any Windows based application. Prior to Anysoft, Herb was vice president of marketing for Bell Atlantic Network Integration, one of the nation's top 10 system integrators, with revenues of over $250 million per year.
Before joining Bell Atlantic Herb was founder and CEO of Hyperdesk Corporation, a pioneer in object-oriented technology and creator of the CORBA standard. He also served as product marketing division director at Data General Corporation, where he was responsible for $1 billion in annual revenue and was instrumental in the development and launch of the AViiON family of high performance servers and workstations and the CLARiiON storage systems acquired by EMC. Herb holds a Masters in computer science from New York University and a BSEE from the City College of New York.
Herb enjoys working at Exclusive Concepts. "It's a fun place to work, yet people are heads down, working hard. The Internet is second nature to everybody. Even the fairly junior workers understand the Internet thoroughly, and they very quickly get a practical hands-on understanding of real marketing. That delivers bottom line results, which is what the clients want."
Immediate results, and measurable. That's what Herb values about Internet marketing. "It's easy to generate traffic," he says. "What's important is to get people that turn into a lead or sale. That's where the magic is."
Take advantage of Herb's marketing expertise, and make the Web work for you with Exclusive Concepts.
